Week 12

This week has been very busy for all of is in Team Crazy Worm. Hoa, Jen and I have been busily designing our pages for the journal. Jen started us off by doing the first siix weeks followed by Hoa who finished from seven to nine as these weeks had a lot of activity for us all. I finshed up with the last weeks again as we were very busy during this period. We finished our journal today which we are estatic about as we have workedvery hard for this moment from day one. We not knly had our own expectations met and achieved but also have gotten lots of great feedback even to this day nearly three weeks after finsihing up at the primary school hopefully we will be able to report back a successful and well achieved mark but that is all to far to think of as we finish all our individual work.

On behalf of Team Crazy Worm it has been really fun and an honour to work through this brief and hope it has been an enjoyable ride for you too.

Throughout this week we have all been trying to collect all the information that we have collated over the last 12 weeks.

Team Crazy Worms is hard at work at the moment creating our report which we are doing in the form of a journal. Today we scanned all the entries into the computer so that we had copies of them all as well as we all had our schedules on how the pages will be set out and we assigned certain pages to different people we ended up with 12 pages each except for Jen who ended up with 13 as she is doing both front and back covers, as we feel they work with each other so would work better if designed by the same person.

We created a mock up of one of the pages so that we could keep a uniformity to our work all the way through the journal. We have produced a timeline to keep to so hopefully we will report that we have finished everything we wanted to.

Week 10 Cont'd

In class this week we went over everything that had happened at assembly a few days ago. We worked out what we could do with all the information and images we had gotten over the three sessions. Jen gave us her images that she had as she had been the photographer of the group primarily as Hoa and Jo shared video and presenting duties. After we all had the images we started talking about the presentation of our report.

As we had discussed before we decided on a journal with written entries and images to go along with them. We also decided the form , of a flip book similar to a flip calendar. We worked out the size and pages then we spoke about what would be needed for our exhibition. We know we need a VCR or DISC Drive for video a wall space and a small table so that it would look like a small little presentation space in its self like a small show. We will need to look decide seriously how to dicide the individual pages evenly in the next week, but at the moment we are very happy with our progress so far and how much we have accomplished.

Week 10

This week we finally announced the winner of our t-shirt design competition at the primary school’s, school assembly .

We got there early for the assembly so we went and sat down going over the speech that jo was going to make as both Hoa and Jen were videoing and taking photo’s. We were all quite nervous especially Jo as we were aware that there would be more that 350 people there. We also did some planing for what we are going to do with our final report.

When it was our turn we got all the kids to come up to the front and get a round of applause for such good work and dedication. We then announced Nicholas Turner as the winner and Lochlan Kriesfeld as runner up. Both were surprissed and happy as were we when it was finally over.

We got Nick to go change into his top so that we could get photos of him in his winning design. We also got one of the grade six teachers to take a photo of ‘Team Crazy Worm’ and our new logo.

We were congratulated by some teachers at the primary school for the great idea as the kids seemed to be proud to be up there and recognised which was a really nice thing to hear.

Week 9

We collected kids’ drawings for the T-shirts competition and we played hangman games with them. Some kids did not draw it so they drew impromptu in front of us, and some explained why they drew like that to us.

On last Wednesday, we put all kids’ drawings on the 1st year class’ wall and picked the winner. Actually that was totally different from our expectations but was really happy too. =)

We picked the winner and made T-shirts for the winner and us with winner’s drawing.

Week 8

This Monday, we did something big one!
We finally went the primary school and played with 16 students.
They were wonderful! Adorable kids =)

Firstly, we played the ‘Chinese whisper game’. Some kids cheated and some were very serious, but they all enjoyed.
Secondly, we all read about Greenhouse effect with pictures and played ‘putting in order games’.
Thirdly, kids played drawing games as a pair that picked one piece of paper and drew about the word on the paper.
Finally we all did a drawing game, it was great. Their drawings were wonderful!

We gave a piece of paper for drawing competition, and next Monday we are going to pick them up and then, we will put on the wall of the level 5 next week.
When the winner will choose from peers, we are going to make the T-shirt with the winner’s drawing.

We discussed how many games and activities do we have to make and finally we chose one or two activities for each person. Individually we made those and prepared on the class day of week 7. We adjusted small things such as a picture size and words and decided final activities. After that we presented how we are going to do our project in front of other classmates.

Week 6

6th week (2 April – 13 April)

During the week 6, three of us went to the AGideas on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (2/4-4/4). Therefore, we did not have much time together to prepare games and activities for the 1st session to school. We decided to do it individual and when we came back to uni, we would share what we got.

This week was the final week of term 1 in primary school so the permission forms haven’t handed out yet. We supposed to hand it out in the first day of term 2.

After the AGideas, it was our holiday at uni. I went interstate so Jen and Jo had a good holiday break after hard working days at uni.

On first day of term 2, Friday 13 April, we used our lunch break to talk about our project since we were away for awhile. Luckily, all of us actually did something during our break. Each member showed their works then were discussing and gave feedback. We pointed out which part need to be improved.

Jen had some good ideas for matching pictures (like puzzle) with the process of global warming and natural disasters. I came up with the ideas of drawing game that kids have to draw from one picked word (relevant word). Other idea was Chinese whisper which kids have to whisper one picked sentence from my topic.

Jo was supposed to hand out the permission forms and design the t-shirt competition form.

We finished our short meeting with clear aims for the next class.

Not much work has been getting done as we are at AGIdeas and the next step involves is getting together as a group which we have decided could wait as other subjects are taking priority at the moment. We have allocated jobs to do and think over about over the Easter holidays taking into account us needing a break from uni. We have to think of ideas on game and activity possibilities. Another think that we must try to work out is what direction we want the competition to work and take etc.

4th week

Last week we decided on doing a pack for students in primary school (between 7 – 12 years old). Three of us finished class and felt confident about what we are gonna do for the final outcome. We all well prepared for class this week. I found some good articles about impact of human. I did research on what bad actions that people often do to our environment without notice. Jen and Jo come to class with some images and articles of their parts.
Everything seems to be fine!

In the beginning of class, Tania decided to have a short presentation of each group…about 2mins talk about what we’ve got.

Our group listened carefully for other groups and tried to draw experience from them.

Everything still seems to be ok until….

There is a group come to present their proposal with the pack for student in school! How similar is that! I, Jen and Jo couldn’t speak any word. How could two groups come up with similar idea about the same topic? How could be two ideas coincided when my group started this idea from the beginning?

To be honest, we were upset. When two groups have a similar idea, we have to change our idea!

Because our group did a research on the topic so we quickly had another idea for proposal. Our group did a great job on the “similar” idea; therefore, we kept the main part and content. We just changed the final outcome (a pack) to a t-shirt competition. Actually, it seems to be more interesting than the older idea.

When our group presented (5-10mins later), we talked about the dilemma and the new idea. Tania and classmates gave us really good questions and responses. They like it a lot.

We finally could find our excitement again!

We used the rest of class time for group work. We agreed to have some sessions to a primary school, play games and give out the t-shirt competition – working on the structure of the sessions. We divided works so both of us would do some work for next class. I and Jen were assigned to prepare games and activities for the kids. Jo will try to talk to the principal of her brother’s school and get permission for our activities.

In the end of class, we had a clear vision of what we have to do to achieve the best final outcome.

3rd Week

Well this week we have made good progress in our research on the broad issue of Global Warming, Natural Disasters and the cause and effects of both. We have all done our own research and then we have gotten together to share our findings and what we found interesting.

It has become very obvious that we each have certain areas that we find more interesting to us individually more than others. We have decided that we are each going to look further into those areas individually and then get together again and share and swap information. It has ended up being Jen looking further into global warming, Hoa looking into the impacts of humans on our environments, and Jo choosing to look into natural disasters. We are all going to look further into climate change.

We started our research in class by speaking about who we wanted to target our information to and how. We are planning on aiming our message to the next generation mainly young children between the ages of 7-12yrs. We have spoken about how we could target these children in the best way, primarly that would get through to them on their own levels. We have discussed this within our group and then with consultation with Tania naming possible ideas and avenues that we could follow onto. We have finally decided on a pack to be used in primary schools for school ages childeren in our target age group of 7-12 and we have all gone away with the aim of looking into existing versions of this type of thing and really try understanding our info to be able to reiterate the information to the children well enough so that they can also understand the information. We are hopeing that we can avoid the information going in one ear and out the other as we are can happen when children get bored . We all have our set plans for the next week.
